I'm now going over all the discography of Hisaishi and here is the song I like the most of all the Hisaishi stuff I've heard.

It's from the album My lost City: "Drifting in the city"

=> The modulation to that far away chord is really something.
=> The sequence + nice melody is memorable.

Other honorable mentions are:

- Oriental Wind: Instrumentation is very nice, especially the youtube version with the chinese violin.
- Les Aventuriers: I like gypsy music
- Friends: Very nice melody, full of emotion
- Angel Springs: One of the best songs I have heard, Hisaishi uses modulations that flow into each other in eternity, ever growing in climax. Never ending climax!
- Tasmania Monogatari: Hisaishi is a master in sequences.

(I'm surprised that my harmony sounds a lot like Hisaishi, and I've never heard of him before!)

Anyone heard the album "Quartet"?

It's so gooooooood!!!!!!

Especially Lover's Rain. Sounds almost like Minority Report.

I think I'm going to make an ode to that piece.

Hmm, Kids return is pretty good, but the harmony is not that interesting as some other works of Hisaishi. And you know I'm all for the harmony!

There's some kind of old school in Joe hisaishi. And it's not a criticism, quite the opposite !

Could be, but also the contrary is true!

I'd say Hisaishi influenced Hamauzu A LOT!

The proof is "Lover's Rain". Hamauzu used this possibly in Dirge of Cerberus "Calm before the storm".

Also, Hisaishi uses many violin thingies that Hamauzu does too. The proof is in "Quartet" album.

Quel carton pour la musique
Imaginez le sublime "Château Ambulant Image Album" et sa brillance russe, ajoutez y une touche ample et sucrée, et voilà !

Le thème de l'océan est grandiose et bien dosé.

Dans le labo sous-marin, le cuivres sonnent tellement comme chez Prokofief.

Il y a aussi une grosse blague de la part de Miyazaki avec l'héroïne courant sur les vagues au son déguisé de la Valkyrie de Wagner. L'arrivée au cimetière marin se fait au son d'une flûte rappelant le "Prélude à l'après midi d'un faune" de Debussy, et ensuite les cordes sonnent comme chez Stravinsky dans l'oiseau de feu o_O (et c'est beau !)

La chanson de fin, euuuh, jor Totoro !

La musique ne m'avait pas marqué tant que ça à l'époque où je l'avais vu, si bien qu'à part la chanson theme, je me rappelle pas du tout de la musique

Y'a des films que j'ai vu y'a plusieurs années je m'en souviens comme si c'était hier, Ponyo ca fait quoi... 9 mois ? Enfin même pas un an, et j'ai beaucoup plus été bluffé par le visuel que par la musique.

Au contraire, moi j'ai trouvé que c'était un des Miyasaki dans lequel la musique est utilisé à merveille, une belle alchimie. J'ai particulièrement aimé la scène d'ouverture et la scène ou elle court sur les vagues, un plaisir visuel et auditif fort et assez rare rappelant les grands films muet et leurs musiques !

Par contre la chanson de fin n'est pas de Hisaishi il me semble ? J'ai pas accroché, j'ai trouvé que c'était le bémol de la BO.
